The main aims of this major program on infertility and endometriosis are:

  • to further structure the French community in fundamental, clinical, public health, epidemiological and human and social sciences research;
  • to massively increase knowledge in order to better understand the physiopathology of endometriosis and infertility, particularly in the following areas:
      1. environmental and genetic determinants,
      2. molecular and cellular mechanisms,
      3. early signs, symptoms and mechanisms of pain in endometriosis,
      4. fertility preservation and restoration methods,
      5. innovative methods in assisted reproduction technologies,
      6. development of new models of study,
      7. associated psychological aspects,
      8. practices to improve the well-being of those affected,
      9. social inequalities in the management of these pathologies;
  • to promote innovation by preparing technology transfer to industry;
  • to mobilize funding via other national and international calls for proposals;
  • to raise the visibility of these two diseases among health and research authorities;
  • to encourage the development of new policies in these fields.

These challenges will be met through several actions:

  • EPI-ENDO, a project focusing on the epidemiology of endometriosis in France;
  • the creation of two multidisciplinary research consortiums, one for each axis, following a call for applications;
  • the recruitment of PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers;
  • training and animation actions through multidisciplinary symposia, seminars and summer schools;
  • the creation of a Industrial Club and a Patients’ Association Forum to unite these communities;
  • communication initiatives aimed at the scientific community and the general public.

The new knowledge generated by this research will be used to perfect diagnostic and treatment methods for couples, and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies.
